Boulder Colorado Event- Hi Roller Skatepark. Like many of you reading this post right now I too was not at this event, but I clearly remember reading about it in Action Now back in 1980. Since we have not yet perfected our time machine, watching it on DVD is the next best thing to being there. This DVD was professionally remastered and runs clean with excellent audio. Skaters you'll get to watch compete are DP, Elguera, Grisham, Losi, LaMar, Andrecht and a few runs from Malba during his practice. There are interviews with Duane, Malba, Grisham and Elguera that are also a great blast into the past. We're not going to tell you who wins, you'll have to buy the DVD to find out, it's well worth $19.95 and cheaper than the time machine.

The story tracks Gator's life from local hero to international stardom and then into his downfall. Gator is now serving a 31 year to life sentence for a murder he confessed to.
There is a lot of good 80's skate footage, interviews with many of skateboarding greats and even a a recorded phone conversation with Gator himself from the prison phone.
Not a happy movie but one well produced, to the point and worth owning.

This is never before seen complete footage from the actual event, it was professionally filmed and we are pleased to be able to offer this classic footage to our customers. If you are unfamiliar with the Hester Series, it was a series of contests held at various skate parks across the USA. Points were combined from all events and at the end the skater with the overall highest rankings was crowned the winner. Steve Olson won the inaugural series and you will have to buy the DVD to see who wins this one! The Crown Jewel Boulder event is from the second year of the Hester Series and features skating from Duane Peters, Ray Rodriguez, Steve and Mickie Alba, Brad Bowman, Jay Smith, Dave Andrecht, Eddie Elguera, Chris Strople, Darrell Miller and a hand full of other early pool pioneers that helped pave the way for today's mega stars. The footage and sound quality of this DVD is fantastic for being close to 30 years old and watching Jay Smith doing his infamous layback with the Ramones playing over the speakers is worth the price of the DVD alone. This is an amazing documentary about legendary skater Christian Hosoi, directed Cesario "Block" Montano and narrated by none other than Dennis Hopper.

For stylish airs, no one came close to Hosoi. At his peak in the mid-80's he was the "rock star" of skating, pulling in astronomical money. Innovating crazy vertical maneuvers like the "Christ Air," Christian knew how to stoke an audience. Then it all came crashing down when Hosoi plowed into a self-destructive binge, getting hooked on crystal meth and hitting rock bottom with a prison sentence for drug smuggling. Completely annihilated, Christian turned to the Bible for answers and found new strength, getting released from prison in 2004 and at 37, launching into skateboarding once again.

With loads of fantastic footage from Hosoi, Hawk, Gator, Cab, Mcgill and so many others and, several really great interviews with Grosso, Duncan, Jay Adams, Alva and Jason Lee, this is a Tailtap.com MUST HAVE.
